Year 5 staff
On Wednesday this week, Year 5 took part in No Pens Wednesday. We had a great day of practical activities and lots of discussion. The children worked hard on music, art, cooking and also had a go at “Just a Minute” – not as easy as it sounds, but we had some real stars!
5JB were fortunate to have a visitor from the Shakespeare School festival to help us with our production of Macbeth. The teachers also had some training after school.
Year 5JB have made a great start to their work on Macbeth!
We dramatized a socially-distanced battle today.
Chess in Schools and the Community (CSC) has secured free chess memberships (worth £25) for some our children to access either via:
The website/app has puzzles, videos, and gives the possibility of playing chess online in a safe environment. Chat functions are extremely limited and designed with the safeguarding of primary school-aged children in mind.
Children will have access to the learning resources and the opportunity to play games against any other child in the CSC community, from schools across the country. They’ll be running regular puzzle-solving challenges, competitions, chess matches between schools, and regional and national tournaments for children with those accounts. There’s also the possibility of your CSC tutor being able to run competitions within your school. The idea is to set up a huge online chess club within Chesskid, run by CSC.
We’d love children at our school to be part of this. They don’t need to have played chess before – Chesskid starts from scratch. We are providing a username and password for your child to use below.
Please do use this great resource 5MJ!

Ethan has made a poster at home to remind us all to be kind to each other, especially at the moment.
Faheem has made this brilliant poster – which does not really need any words of explanation!
