Year 6 – Final Assembly (part 2)

They thought they had done their final assembly a few weeks ago but this morning Year 6 took to the stage again to sing “There’s no place I’d rather be”, a song that seems to be echoing around Allerton CE Primary at the moment! Wearing denim and odd footwear (a fund raising project for a cancer charity) they looked like they wanted to be together.

The girls then did an amazing dance routine involving somersaults, headstands and other incredible manoeuvres.

Merrily we rolled into a steel pan demonstration from some of the boys, a resounding success!

Vanessa shared with us that life is all about caring and sharing, not being cool.

Emily then gave a fantastic solo dance which was very well received. This was followed by half the class sharing a dance with us to the song “Say what you want to say”.

We then saw a video showing our leavers over their time at our school. It’s amazing how much they have grown up and developed over the years and although the pictures may have embarrassed a few children they showed how much they have enjoyed their time here and the amazing opportunities they have had.

Mrs Hull, who has been at the school since it was formed 7 years ago, said her farewell to us by talking to us about one of her favourite things – chocolate! She is going to be hugely missed and we wish her well in her retirement eating her Curly Wurlys!

We also had an extremely special guest who had flown for 24 hours from Malawi to say farewell to Mrs Hull – Miss Cave!

Miss Linsley and Mrs Hull have both worked for Leeds City Council for 25 years and so they were presented with wonderful framed picture acknowledging their service.

Year 5 & 6 assembly

While snow was falling outside on the day of the Spring Equinox year 5 and 6 took our assembly in a warm, snug hall.

science1Our intrepid news reporters first told us about a science visit to Allerton High where they made fire from water! This was done by splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen which can be used to power rockets.

A report on writing and acting about different genres followed including adventure and fantasy genres

A news item followed on a year 5 fund raising movie night showing “Goodnight Mr Tom”. A review of a play about the story was then read giving a rating of 9/10 for the play.

Year 6 have been fund raising by running a romantic Valentines day disco selling food, candy, drink and raffle tickets.

Next we had some poems about Daedalus and Icarus brilliantly read by their authors.

CLCFor some strange reason some pupils kept walking across the stage. It turns out that they were acting out the walk to the North East Leeds CLC at Allerton Grange where they made some podcasts, some of which are on the class blog.

In music year 5 and 6 have been working on writing music about the planets and we were given a performances of two versions of Life on Mars.

Professor Adam showed us how in maths they have been looking at how to times and divide fractions. This was a bit mind stretching!

We closed with a prayer read by Iman.
