Marks and Spencer’s trip

M and S LogoOn the 27th of March year 6 visited the M&S archive in Leeds. I learnt how M&S became worldwide and that the people who made it become worldwide were called Simon Marks and Israel Sheriff, but the people who called it M&S were Mr Marks and Mr Spencer. Another interesting fact was that it wasn’t originally called M&S it was Mark’s Penny Bazaar.

After we had finished learning lots of interesting facts we did an activity which was even better. We had to make our own range of products and some part of the design hadto be inspired by M&S. My group designed sports clothing for boys aged 10-16, it was called ‘Classic V’. Overall I really enjoyed the trip and I would recommend it to anyone aged 10 and above.

M and S trip

Today year 6 had a trip into Leeds to go to the Marks and Spencer’s archive and learnt about the history of Marks and Spencer’s . My class learnt that it was started by a Polish and Jewish  man and was  later taken over by his son, Simon Marks. What started off as a small penny priced stall, blossomed into a worldwide company. I found out that Twiggy started modeling for them in the 1960’s and was only 16 years old . Next time you go into a Marks and Spencer’s think about how many years its been around and think about it still being a tiny penny priced shop!

Dig For Victory!

Year 6 have been studying World War 2.

Since the Germans are blockading our ports and sinking ships bringing food to our shores we need to grow more of our own food. The school grounds have several areas which we could dig up to grow more food. We identified seven areas, measured them and used Google and Textease Spreadsheet to caculate the cost of planting the whole area with potatoes assuming that Year 6 contribute the labour for free!

Here are two of the reports that we wrote to our Head Teacher, Mrs Stott:
