Welcome to a new school year. One of the first things that we did was to taste some of the delicious fruit that has appeared in the Orchard over the Summer – prize winning apples for both flavour and appearance!

Values newsletter
Dear parents and carers,
Did you know that every two weeks a parents Values newsletter is added to the school’s website to help keep you informed about the values that we are doing in school? The values come from the “fruits of spirit” in the Bible (Galatians 5:22-23) and also from the Fundamental British Values that schools are required to promote. We hope you enjoy reading these newsletters together as a family and make time to have a family discussion about these to compliment the children’s learning in school.

A Big Thank You!
A huge thank you to my year 6 group of boys (Bailey, Brandon, Peter, Prabjeet, Cameron and Josiah) who made their Woollton Pies this afternoon. They were the quietest and most mature group that I have cooked with this year. Thank you boys, it was a pleasure to work with you😃

Visit to St John’s Church
Year 6 went on a thought-provoking visit to St John’s Church today. Â We learnt the stories of some local men who had been killed in World War I, looked at some artefacts and the graves of some individuals who are buried in the churchyard.
The exhibition is on for a little while longer and is well worth a visit.

Visit to Ilkley Literature Festival
An excellent trip to Ilkley by bus and train this week. The first time on a train for some!  We looked around Ilkley with the aid of a map and had to look for books displayed in shop windows.
We then went to hear the author Morris Gleitzman speak about his latest novel which we will be reading soon in class.
Well done both Year 6 classes for an enjoyable and educational trip.

Debate on Thursday 16th October
Today we held a spirited debate on the motion – All Hindus and Sikhs should be allowed a day off work to celebrate Divali.
Here the side arguing for the motion are seen preparing their notes and arguments before the debate.
What was the outcome of the debate? (watch the full debate here soon!).

Fairtrade Fortnight 2014
There has been some fantastic learning going on about Fairtrade!
We began Fairtrade Fortnight with a Fairtrade assembly led by our school council.
Then on Monday 3rd our whole school enjoyed a Fairtrade breakfast of Fairtrade juice and a Fairtrade banana.
Some children in years 5 and 6 cooked a Fairtrade banana curry.
Find the recipe on the year 5/6 blog.
DELICIOUS!!!
